GAME ONE: ROUGHRIDERS 6, ICE 0
The home team stormed out of the locker room to score three first period goals and never looked back in route to an opening game shutout win. Cedar Rapids received a balanced scoring attack as six different players scored goals and goaltender Troy Grosenick posted the lone shutout of these USHL playoffs with a terrific 41-save performance. Indy out shot the RoughRiders 41-25, but was 0-7 on the power play.
GAME TWO: ROUGHRIDERS 5, ICE 3
After Alex Wideman scored Indy’s first playoff goal midway through the first, Cedar Rapids roared back for five consecutive goals including three in a dominating second period which saw the RoughRiders out shoot the Ice 15-5. The first and third periods were a different story as Indiana owned a 29-13 shot advantage while scoring all three of their markers during those two frames. The Ice fought valiantly to get back in the game with two quick power play goals in the third from Max Cook and Shane Berschbach, but Troy Grosenick and the rest of the RoughRiders held fort and earned the win. Leading the way for the home team was the duo of David Boehm and Derek DeBlois who combined for five points (4G, A), while Troy Grosenick stopped 31 shots in net.
GAME THREE: ICE 3, ROUGHRIDERS 1
For the third consecutive game the Ice out shot the “Riders” (39-28), but for the first time in the series the result was an Indy victory. After a scoreless first, Indy registered the game’s first two goals as Max Cook and Shane Berschbach both scored as power plays had just expired. Zach Lehrke trimmed the Ice lead to 2-1 with a goal midway through the third, but Nic Dowd closed out the game with an empty netter for his second point of the night. Casey DeSmith made his first start of the postseason in grand style as he stopped 27 of 28 shots, while Grosenick was strong again for Cedar Rapids as he turned away 36 Indy shots.
