GALIEV, BITETTO AND MATTSON HEAR NAMES CALLED AT NHL DRAFT

06-26-2010

INDIANAPOLIS- The 2010 NHL Draft concluded this afternoon from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA with forward Stanislav Galiev and defensemen Anthony Bitetto and Nick Mattson earning selections from Washington, Nashville and Chicago respectively.

Galiev led off the draft parade as he was selected in the third round (86th overall) by the Washington Capitals who selected former Ice defenseman John Carlson in the first round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. Galiev was a member of Indiana's 2009 Clark Cup Championship team where he compiled 64 points (26G, 35A) IN 59 regular season games.

A pair of defensemen from the 2009-10 squad heard their names called Saturday as Bitetto and Mattson were sixth round selections. Bitetto was picked by the Predators (168th overall) after amassing 40 points (11G, 29A) and a team-leading 99 penalty minutes for Indy last season. The rugged defender was also a member of the 2009 Clark Cup Championship squad.

Mattson was selected a few picks later (180th overall) by the defending Stanley Cup Champion Blackhawks after an all-star season with the Ice that included 19 points (5G, 14A) in 51 games. He will return this fall to Indianapolis to anchor the Ice blueline.

In addition to Galiev, Bitetto and Mattson, three other players with Ice ties were selected at the draft. Forwards Kevin Hayes and Charlie Coyle were former Ice Futures Draft Selections and went in the first round on Friday to Chicago (24th overall) and San Jose (28th overall), while defenseman Patrick McNally who was a 2010 USHL Draft Pick of Indy was nabbed by Vancouver today in the fourth round (115th overall).
