ICE KICK-OFF SUPER SUNDAY AGAINST STEEL FRIDAY

TEAM TO WEAR THROW BACK CHECKERS JERSEYS FROM THE 80’s

INDIANAPOLIS— The Indiana Ice return home from a weekend away to play against the Chicago Steel Friday at Bankers Life Fieldhouse for the Super Sunday Kick-off game presented by Ermco. The puck is set to drop at 7:05 pm.

Indy controls a 2-0-1 advantage over Chicago this year after last weekend’s 4-2 victory at the Edge Ice Arena.  Robbie Baillargeon leads the Icemen with six points (G, 5A) in the season series while Jon Gillies has been in net for all three contests, compiling a 1.95 GAA and a .938 SV%.

Skating off from a 5-3 win in the USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game, Baillargeon boasts the title of MVP for Team East after scoring two goals in the match-up. The Boston University commit is currently ranked third on the team with 31 points (11G, 20A).  Forward Robert Polesello added an assist in the game while Gillies turned away 19 of 20 shots in under 30 minutes of play.

The team will be sporting the throwback Checkers jerseys for this weekend’s games in Indy and then in Muskegon. The jerseys are replicas of those the Indianapolis professional team wore from 1979-1987. Both Ice Owner Paul Skjodt and President Charlie Skjodt played for the Checkers. Game-worn jerseys will be auctioned off after the game to benefit the Bigfoot Foundation.

After Friday’s game, the Ice hit the road to play the Muskegon Lumberjacks Saturday and the Green Bay Gamblers on Sunday. Saturday’s game against Muskegon was originally an Ice home game, but has been moved to Muskegon, MI due to events surrounding the Super Bowl.

Tickets for this Friday’s game at Bankers Life Fieldhouse start as low as $10 and there is a $2 discount for children 10 and under and seniors 62 and over.  Tickets can be purchased through Ticketmaster by calling 1-800-745-3000, online at ticketmaster.com or by visiting select Wal-Mart and Simon Mall locations and the Pepsi Coliseum and Bankers Life Fieldhouse box offices.
