SAME OLD SONG AND DANCE FOR ICE, GAMBLERS

TEAMS MEET IN EASTERN FINALS FOR THIRD TIME IN FOUR YEARS 

INDIANAPOLIS—The Indiana Ice and Green Bay Gamblers add another chapter to the rivalry as the teams meet in the Eastern Conference finals for the third time in four years.  The series begins next Thursday (5/3) in Green Bay, WI with game three slated for Sunday (5/6) back in Indianapolis.

Indy secured their trip to the Eastern Conference finals after defeating the reining Clark Cup Champion Dubuque Fighting Saints 3-1 on Wednesday to sweep the series in three games.  Daniil Tarasov recorded seven points (3G, 4A) in the three-game series, including a record-breaking five-point (3G, 2A) effort in Saturday’s 6-3 victory at Pepsi Coliseum.  Jake Fallon (2G, 3A), Sean Kuraly (2G, 2A) and Robbie Baillargeon all had points in all three contests while goaltender Jon Gillies posted a 3-0-0 record with a 2.00 GAA and a .940 save percentage.

The #1 seed Gamblers punched their ticket to the finals with a 4-1 win on Wednesday overYoungstownto take their series three games to one.  Alex Broadhurst leads the Gamblers with seven points (5G, 2A) in four postseason appearances, including three shorthanded goals against the Phantoms in Sunday’s 6-3 victory.  Netminder Ryan McKay is 3-1-0 in playoff action with a 2.74 GAA and a .880 save percentage.

Indiana and Green Bay will be venturing into familiar territory as the two rivals have previously met four times in the postseason, including two meetings in the Eastern Conference finals.  The Ice eliminated the Gamblers from the playoffs in 2007 and in the 2009 Eastern Conference finals which culminated in Indy’s march to the 2009 Clark Cup Championship. Green Bay overtook the Ice in the Eastern Conference finals during their 2010 Clark Cup Championship run and knocked out Indy last season in the Eastern Conference semifinals.
