ICE ADD FIVE TO STABLE AT 2012 USHL FUTURES DRAFT
INDIANAPOLIS- The Indiana Ice selected two defensemen, two forwards and a goaltender at the 2012 USHL Futures Draft Tuesday evening. The draft was for all players with a 1996 birthyear.
The Ice used their first two picks on a pair of skilled defensemen in Adam Baughman (Chicago, IL) and Blake Siebenaler (Fort Wayne, IN). The 6-2 Baughman was picked with the fifth pick overall in the first round and manned the blue line last season for the Chicago Mission U16 hockey club. Siebenaler hails from Fort Wayne, IN and spent last year with the Cleveland Barons U16 squad.
Indiana went north with their next selection which was forward Jake Evans (Toronto, Ontario) from the Mississauga Rebels in Ontario. Evans registered 91 points (35G, 56A) in 56 games last season with the club.
The Ice mimicked their recent goaltending trend of big goalies (Jon Gillies, Scott Darling) and took 6-4 netminder Edwain Minney (Wind Gap, PA) with their fourth pick. Minney patrolled the pipes for the DC Capitals U16 team and recorded a 2.71 GAA and a .902 save percentage in 25 games of work.
The final pick for the Ice was talented forward Luca Leone (Vancouver, BC) who centered a line for powerhouse Shattuck out of Minnesota.
Indy had only five picks in this year's Futures Draft as the team tendered defenseman Joshua Jacobs (Shelby Township, MI) to their roster last weekend and the 6-2 defenseman will be in the Ice line-up next year. Jacobs is a 6-2 blueliner who played for powerhouse Honeybaked out of metro Detroit last season.
