Former Ice defenseman John Carlson will continue his career with the Washington Capitals after signing a six-year contract with the team.  Carlson has been a mainstay on the Caps blueline, finishing second among team defensemen in points (32), goals (9) and assists (23).

Prior to his time with the Capitals, Carlson spent two seasons with the Ice (2006-2008), leading all team defensemen in points during the 2007-2008 campaign. He was the first Iceman to be selected in the first round of the NHL Draft (27th overall).
