DOWNTOWN HOCKEY RETURNS TO “CIRCLE CITY” SATURDAY

ICE HOST OMAHA IN PAN AM PLAZA HOME OPENER ON SATURDAY AT 7PM

INDIANAPOLIS—The Indiana Ice return to action on Friday as the team heads to Chicago for the 2012-2013 regular season opener before making their home debut on Saturday, October 29 against the Omaha Lancers from Pan Am Plaza.  Saturday’s puck is set to drop at 7:05 pm.

The Ice is 6-2-0 overall in season openers dating back to the 2004-05 season and have won the last three opening contests on the road.  Daniil Tarasov tallied two goals, including the game’s overtime winner, in last year’s debut against the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.  Indy finished the 2011-12 campaign with a 36-15-9 record before advancing to the Eastern Conference Finals against the eventual Clark Cup Champion Green Bay Gamblers.

Indy is led this year by a strong group of veterans, including forwards Robbie Baillargeon, Woody Hudson, Tyler Pham and Drew Smolcynski.  Baillargeon finished third on the team in scoring with 48 points (14G, 34A) and was drafted by the Ottawa Senators in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft in June.

Returning on the defensive front for the Ice is Joe Fiala, Matt Krug and Peter Hand.  Goaltender Dalton Izyk will be back in net for Indy after appearing in 16 contests for the Ice last season.

The Ice also boosted its lines with the addition of several experienced USHL players including Austin Hervey (Lincoln/Des Moines), Austin Ortega (Cedar Rapids), Bo and Canon Pieper (Chicago), Alex Smith (Muskegon) and Alex Talcott (Muskegon).

Indy plays the first four home games at Pan Am Plaza before Bankers Life Fieldhouse Opening Night presented by BMO Harris against Green Bay on Friday, November 9.

Single-game tickets start at $11 for Bankers Life Fieldhouse games and general admission tickets for Pan Am Plaza games are $10. There is a $2 discount for children 10 and under and seniors 62 and over.  Tickets can be purchased through Ticketmaster by calling 1-800-745-3000, online at ticketmaster.com or by visiting select Wal-Mart and Simon Mall locations and the Bankers Life Fieldhouse box office.
