PRACTICE SCHEDULE: The Ice is scheduled to practice at Pan Am Plaza Monday and Wednesday from 3:10-4:20 pm and Tuesday and Thursday from 2:55-4:55 pm.  There will be a pre-game skate on Friday from 10:20-11:20 am.

FULL SPEED AHEAD:  The 2012-2013 season is in full tilt after the Ice split two opening weekend contests.  Indy outshot Chicago 37-30 and hit several goal posts in a 3-2 loss to the Steel Friday night in Bensenville, IL.  Woody Hudson and Austin Ortega lit the lamp for the Ice while Dalton Izyk stopped 27 of 30 shots in net.  Izyk and crew opened Pan Am Plaza in grand fashion on Saturday as they shut out the Omaha Lancers 2-0.  Brian Morgan and Ortega both potted goals in the contest while Izyk blocked all 18 shots for his second career shutout.

GREAT WALL OF IZYK: Following Saturday’s 18-save performance, Dalton Izyk became the first and only USHL goaltender to log a shutout in the opening weekend of the season.  He is currently third among league goaltenders in saves (45) and his 1.51 GAA tops all other netminders with at least two starts in net.  The Oswego, NY native owns Indy’s two most recent shutouts dating back to last season as Izyk recorded a 24-save blanking against the Muskegon Lumberjacks last March (3/16/12).

KEEP THE GOAL LIGHTS BURNING: Austin Ortega has been an offensive dynamo for Indy ever since the Ice picked up the second-year winger from the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders.  Dating back to the exhibition season, he is riding a five-game goal streak with six markers in the process.  In his first USHL season, he finished second on Cedar Rapids with 19 goals and tied for second with seven power play goals.

TAKING THE REINS:  Woody Hudson took the ice on Saturday with a little extra jewelry on his jersey as the second-year forward was named the team’s captain for the 2012-13 season.  Joining Hudson as a full-time assistant captain is defenseman Joe Fiala, while forward Robbie Baillargeon and defenseman Matt Krug will also serve as home and away assistant captains respectively.

PLAYER MORSELS: Robbie Baillargeon gathered an assist in both games over the weekend…Brian Morgan’s game-winning goal on Friday was his first USHL goal…Austin Ortega leads the league with 12 shots on net…Josh Jacobs leads all league defensemen with eight shots on net.

TEAM BITS:  The Ice is now 7-2-0 all-time in home openers…Indy is a perfect 7/7 on the penalty kill…The Ice is tied for third in shots allowed per game (24.0)…Indiana is second in the USHL with 70 shots on net in two contests…The Ice outshot their opponents in both weekend contests…The Eastern Conference went 6-1-0 in seven head to head games against the Western Conference last weekend.
