ICE CAN'T STABLE ROUGHRIDERS, FALL 5-1 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

October 26, 2012

The Indiana Ice struggled to put the puck on net as they fell to the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders 5-1 Friday night from the Stable.

Mattias Soderqvist finished the contest with 20 saves while Rinat Valiev scored the lone goal in the contest.

The first period remained relatively quite, despite Cedar Rapids taking an early 1-0 lead to start the game.  Corey Petrash put the RoughRiders up with a goal inside the five minute mark for the one an only goal of the first period.  Soderqvist was solid in net, equaling six of seven Cedar Rapids bullets in the opening frame.

Soderqvist showed great poise in the first period, despite facing three different power play opportunities and a penalty shot by the RoughRiders’ veteran Gerald Mayhew.

Indy faced a 10-4 shot disadvantage in the middle frame, but gave up only one goal off a takeaway in the offensive zone by Cedar Rapids’ Gavin Bayreuther.

The Ice matched the RoughRiders with seven shots on net in the third period, but three of  Cedar Rapids lasers met twine during the final stanza off the tape of Scott Moldenhauer, Jack Rowe and Bayreuther.  Valiev put Indy on the board with just over six minutes remaining in the contest to avoid the shutout.

Hockey returns to the Circle City tomorrow night as the Ice host the Lincoln Stars from Pan Am Plaza.  The puck is set to drop at 7:05 pm.
