Charlie Skjodt

President

Charlie Skjodt is the President of the Indiana Ice. He joins the Ice’s front office staff after a one-year stint as Head Coach/General Manager/VP Hockey Operations during the 2010-11 campaign, leading the Ice to a 37-19-4 record and a trip to the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals. As team president, Skjodt oversees all business and hockey operations along with his continued role as Alternate Governor.

He was originally hired as Head Coach at the tail end of the 2006-07 season and led the squad to a final four appearance winning six of seven playoff games, including six straight victories and a four-game sweep in round one against Green Bay. His 2007-08 encore included an East Division Championship, 39-15-6 record and a franchise-best 22-4-4 mark at home.

The veteran bench boss helped mentor, train and develop defenseman John Carlson in 2007-08 that culminated with the Washington Capitals first round selection at the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. He also coached some of the most prolific players in Ice history including forwards Garrett Roe (LA Kings), John Kemp and Paul Carey (Colorado) and goaltenders Alex Kangas (Atlanta) and Scott Darling (Phoenix).

Born in Toronto, Canada, Charlie started his hockey career playing for the Windsor Spitfires of the Ontario Major Junior A League where he held the all-time rookie goal-scoring record for the club (41) for 33 years, until it was broken in 2007-08 by Taylor Hall (45), who went first overall in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. After playing in the Junior League Skjodt was drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1976.

Later as a free agent, he signed with the New York Islanders and spent most of his time playing for their number one affiliate, the Indianapolis Checkers of the CHL. While with the Checkers, Charlie won two Adams Cup Championships and became the second all-time leading scorer in the Central Hockey League.

He went on to spend time with the Detroit Red Wings and the St. Louis Blues organizations, as well as a year with Zurich’s Elite League in Switzerland. Charlie returned to finish his career in Indianapolis, where he was named the assistant coach of the Checkers. After retiring in Indianapolis, Charlie became involved with coaching youth and prep school hockey and coached the Indianapolis Cathedral High School team to two 5A state championships.

Charlie currently resides in Indianapolis with his wife, Jennifer, and his four children.
