NHL Draft Selections

ICEMEN SELECTED IN THE NHL DRAFT

Since joining the United States Hockey League in 2004, the Indiana Ice has continually made a presence in the eyes of scouting teams throughout the NHL. Through the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, 24 Icemen have gotten the call to don the hat and jersey for "The Show."

In the 2008 NHL Entry Draft at the Scotiabank Place in Ottawa, Ontario, John Carlson made Ice history as he was the first Indy product to be drafted in the first round with the 28th overall pick by the Washington Capitals while being the only USHL player to be picked on the first day of the draft. He has since moved on to become one of the starting four defenseman on the Capitals' roster.

Several Ice draft picks have moved on from junior and college hockey and are now working their way upto the "Big Club." Anthony Bitetto (Nashville), Ben Blood (Ottawa), Paul Carey (Colorado) and Corey Fienhage (Buffalo) are all currently playing with the American Hockey League affiliate of their respective draft teams.

It was another banner year for Indy at the draft as three Icemen heard their name called on the second day of the draft from the Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh, PA.  Forward Cristoval Nieves was the first to hear his name called with the 59th overall selection by the New York Rangers.  Jon Gillies was next as the goaltender got the call to guard the pipes for the Calgary Flames with the 75th overall pick.  Forward Robbie Baillargeon rounded out the hat trick when the Ottawa Senators called his name with the 136th selection.

The 2013 NHL Entry Draft will take place June 30  at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ.
